 The plated ones should be similar to normal Lorée staples, but with a gold coating.
 I do think there is a difference, whether brass or NS is used. This difference is just as significant as the small variations in dimensions of staples.
 I use brass staples, I find NS to be too bright and cold.
 
 I have heard good 'rumours' about solid gold staples, I tried one a few months ago, though not my own reed, so it was hard to judge. Of course, to compare gold to brass/NS, the staples must have the same dimensions
 Where did you buy the solid gold staples?
 
 A high class metal like gold may not be ideal for the oboe. Could be that a big part of the oboe sound is that rough sound from the brass or NS staple. Gold may be too nice, but that is what I would like to find out.
