Hey- I've been experimenting with different kinds of cane for my reeds- I find that a certain type pretty much becomes makes good reeds even if the scraping isn't exceptional.
I'm looking for cane that, when a reed is finished, is very dark colored in the light (the contrast between the tip and plateau being like night and day). I get some occasionally out of different types of cane but am looking for some that has this dark quality more consistently, does anyone know of cane like this?- It makes excellent reeds.
I got like 2 good pieces like that out of a batch of RDG cane but the rest I didn't like very much at all, and it's certainly not worth it for a 10% return. I also used to get some out of the cane Kristen Seversen sells and just got a batch of Riggotti yesterday but so far it seems pretty light colored.
If anyone has any reccommendations, that'd help!
thanks,
ashle
