Wow, what a change! Good luck. You inquired about a Barrington oboe. Do they still sell those (last I checked they weren't available online)? My first oboe I purchased last year was a Barrington and despite its low price of $750, it was an absolutely fantastic instrument. I repeat, it was a fantastic instrument. It played in tune and my teacher loved it. If they are still for sale, be sure and order a couple, if possible, and try them out as I've seen posts here and there recently saying their quality assurance isn't all that great any more. WWBW.com has a great return policy, 45 days, so try them out. I just received their latest Fall catalog and they do show they still are selling Barringtons.... Otherwise, I'm sure someone else on the board can give you good advice on a good first oboe to buy.
