It does get very dry here in CO and I know a bunch of players whose oboes have developed cracks.
It also gets cold here and sudden temp changes scare me more than the low humidity.
Back in Va., we had some pretty cold and at times dry winter weather and we worried about cracks. too.
Aside from humidfiers in the case, which were always dry the next time I opened the case ( violin style dampits...), we would put orange peels in the case above the keys. Daily, not so they would rot in there... and the thinking was some slightly volitile citrus oil vapor would benefit the wood.
I have not done this since, but still think it might have some merit.
Here in CO, I probably bore oil my old oboe and ehorn 3 -4 times a year.
Now if I follow Chris P's advice and remove all keys first, I'll probably do it less often, but will also probably go heavy on the oil, let it rest a day or two, dry it out and replace the keys.
