I'm posting this for John Towle.
"I use Joshua +2 & +4. I favor the 2 though I get good
reeds from both. The 2 seems to give a reed up to
pitch on more notes that the 4. I own a Brannen X & a
Weber 1B. Will have to experiment with the 1B. I've
stopped using the X in favor of the Joshua pair. The X
seems harder to keep in tune that the Joshua +2. James
Ryon of the Baton Rouge Symphony told me at the Austin
IDRS conference that the reason he uses the Joshua +2
is because it stays nicely in tune throughout the oboe
registers. His excellent oboe syllabus on reedmaking
also points to the Joshua +2 as a highly recommended
shape.
