I assume someone will be in here in a minute to discuss the breaking-in of wooden oboes...
My understanding is that the kind of resin they use to make plastic oboes is stable from the git-go, and does not need to be broken in, because it's not going to change over time. Some kinds of plastics, like vinyl, do degrade over time, because their plasticizers evaporate into the air, and they become brittle. But other kinds of plastics do not. And I would assume that Fox and Loree and others would not have chosen one of the plasticizer-losing plastics for their oboes.
And thus there's no change to be expected from a plastic oboe, and thus there's no point in a "breaking in" period.
I have a collection of ABS plastic recorders from the 1970s that play exactly the same as they did when I was in high school.
