Hi Walter.
You will need a new mandrel and some English horn staples. (I prefer Chudnow brass EH staples) Other than that, all your oboe tools will work just fine. You might want to try some already shaped cane before you invest in an English horn shaper tip. (I think Midwest musical imports offers a few different shapes, canes and gouges?) I'm sure other places do too. Keep a log of the various shapes and see what works best for you. If you do decide to purchase an English horn shaper tip you will be able to use it with your oboe shaper handle. I am a big believer in keeping a reed book with measurements etc. until you start to get the swing of things. I tie my blanks to about 60mm and I'd shoot for a finished reed length somewhere between 55mm and 57mm. Most of my reeds end up 56 or 57ish. Try different tip and heart lengths etc. My EH reeds have all the basic parts of an oboe reed but there is much less cane taken out of the back. I rarely use wire but many people swear by it. Try it and make your own decision. Feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions. Be sure you have a good bocal!!! If you live near a city with an orchestra see if you can get a lesson with their English horn player.
Good luck!!!
