Thanks for that erudite and thoughtful post. It is much more useful than the blather I was about to write, but is headed in the direction I was headed in--that the language musicians typically use is only suggestive, and is only useful if...well, it's useful if it's useful, but if it's not, no sense trying to make sense of it!
