GMac,
I have decided on going the separates route. For a knife I have settled on a Handwell double hollowground (hard). Some of the things in a kit I already have or can do without for the time being.
There are many different shapes of plaques. Will one type be enough or should a person get a number of them?
Also by 'Tip Sharper", are you referring to a gilletine ? What are people useing to cut the tip? Their knife?
corrine,
GMac seemed to imply that a teacher or knowledgable person is needed. That would be a luxury and some of us don't have it. But Everything you need to know about making oboe reeds is available on the internet. Type in "adjusting oboe reeds" at your favorite search engine. Pass up all the book offers.
