Personally, I would choose the Barrington. It is a much better buy than the Yamaha 211. I'm sorry to hear about everyones "wretched" expierience with the Barrington, but I enjoy playing mine as a back-up. Sometimes, I'll use it instead of my professional Yamaha YOB-841T. I personally think that you have to break an oboe in, before you can truly judge it. You also need to find a good reed for it. I believe that the Barrington is just very picky about the reeds you select for it, unlike many forgiving oboes out there. When I first needed a durable outdoor oboe, I picked the Barrington. At first, the middle B-flat was a tad bit flat, and only the fork F was in tune. I played it a little while, and the problem straightened itself out. Like I said, I think you should work with an oboe until you deem it a "divine gift" or a "turd".
