They post even quite negative reviews and it says it should only take about a week for it to show up.

Your experience encountering out of adjustment oboes at the physical WW&BW shop is something I would have hoped one couldn't expect from them... especially at their front door. I had thought WW&BW always inspected their instruments and had oboe specialists at their site. Since WW&BW warranties that particular instrument themselves I would have expected more quality control.

Hopefully when you next trial oboes you don't run into the same problems, but I have found at my own local shop all their oboes across various brands were out of adjustment, but that I attribute to ther repair person who couldn't adjust an oboe to save his life. Though poor key alignment like you've seen is probably the makers doing and WW&BW should have caught those before they reached anyones hands.

Quality control. Even if makers make clunkers so long as they get filtered out before they get to you, then the brand is reliable. It's why professional makers have moved into lower cost countries and still produce nice instruments. Only the best go out and the rest hopefully scrapped, but probably re-branded.
