Oh, for heaven's sake!
You are about the 25th person I have heard talk about the Selmer springs popping out. There's an instrument to avoid, it seems.
And superglue does, apparently, work miracles.
Just for the record, I have played my Covey outdoors in the summer for two years now, with no ill effects. I would certainly not take it out in the rain, and I NEVER EVER leave it in my car. The only time I have had a problem (as in, it cracked) was when I was using it in an unheated theatre during pit orchestra practice -- which was indoors, technically.
A former Washington, D.C., military band oboist, with whom I have had extensive correspondence, told me that during the 2000 Bush inaugural ceremonies, it was very, very cold in D.C., yet they HAD to play for the outdoor ceremony. They had acquired plastic oboes for the event -- but they all froze up, literally. The only oboe that worked at all was the Covey. Don't know why. I do know it's a fine little oboe.
