How do you divided your daily practice time?
Usually 30-60min Mon-Tues Flute, 30-60min Wed-Thr Oboe, Friday any thing. Saturday/Sunday could be multiple hours on either or none depending on what I have planned.

I've noticed that the more time I put in on the oboe the more weight I lose. When I neglect the oboe I can gain 10lbs!

What do you practice? What method books do you use?
Etudes! I have too many to list :op

My favorite is the Brod etudes and I also do like the Rubank Method books (duets/articulation studies). I do pick things out of the Barret from time to time (it's a must have or Gekeler book 2, which has almost all of the 40 Barret studies).

I have recently picked up the Martin Shuring edition of the Barret and it's really nice. Spiral bound and readable computer print rather than that hand written look of the old Barret (The Shuring edition cuts the preface, the scales, and the ending air varies... leaving the articulation studies, 40 studies, and sonatas).

I do love the Melodious and Progressive books for flute (book 1) and saxophone (book 1). I do have Book 2 for oboe and it is quite the chop buster. I imagine book 1 is probably a little more melodic. I also have the flute book 2 which is certainly a bit night and day, certainly much more challenging than book 1, not nearly so melodious (Terschak <groan>).

How do you work on particular technique problems?
Slow it down at most. I generally don't fuss over things. So long as I play things correctly I will move on to another study. If the problem is in music, search out etudes with similar difficulties and practice through those. The time you spend practicing exercises correctly translates into ability to play general music or as others suggested break those trouble spots into chunks and play them in different ways, even just practice moving beteen two notes slowly and evenly helps out with tough spots (over time).
