I always try to keep in mind that reedmaking is not a goal unto itself. Having a good reed simply facilitates the more important parts of music making.
So if your reeds work for you, who can criticize them?
I can think of several musicians who do things in "non-standard" ways and are still well-respected.
The example that comes to mind immediately is Glenn Gould.
