Don't play a good wood oboe outside in the cold, or the direct light of the sun in hot weather.
If it is a band instrument from school, advise the band director to let you join the percussion section for the gig, and move all oboe solos to muted trumpet.
Or,.... get a synthetic oboe and have at it.
