You need the Bastien Beginning Piano for Adults book. Seriously.

Years ago, my non-musician husband took a summer course in adult piano; he failed dismally, in no small part because the book they used was this one. Basically they swamp the non-musician with too-much-information at every step, so the people (like my husband) who only want to learn how to play Jingle Bells are totally at sea from day one.

But if you're already a musician, it's stuff you already know, and you can cruise right through the oceans of surplus info and get right to the pianoplaying tutelage, which is extremely sound and well-constructed.

The Alfred books are nice, but they're also pretty much for non-musicians.

Note: This is not the new one, the green "Bastien Piano For Adults" edited by Lisa Bastien and Lori Bastien. This is the old one, the one from 1968. Accept no substitutes. There's a reason it's still in print.
