Craig - I really don't know what he did with his embouchere, but to illustrate: one rehearsal Marc went backstage on break as usual, leaving his oboe on his chair and his reed on his stand. I wouldn't dream of touching his oboe without permission, but thought I'd look at his reed. I picked it up and it was so closed I couldn't push any air through it. When Marc came back, he put it in his oboe and played like an angel.

We all use slightly different amounts of reed and embouchere in different parts of the oboe range, especially downward slurs from high to low range. I think Marc just took that to the next level and refined his embouchere for nearly every wide interval.

Watching him, his embouchere was never fixed and although he didn't chew his reed, he certainly was actively changing it.
