I have tiny hands and so even playing oboe is slightly problematic as I don't always have the best hand positions. So, now that I'm thinking of getting an EH, I'm wondering about the ergonomics of different brands. I don't have many to try here, so I'll basically be just picking something and ordering it here. I'm thinking of in particular the Fox 520, since then I don't have to worry about the wood and because I don't want to spend an exorbitant about of money at this time. A pro level, definitely, however.
I'm currently playing the Fox 555 and it has a thin sound that I don't like. My teacher just got a brand new Howarth XL and we were comparing the key locations and the Howarth's RH keys (I think the spacing between the middle and ring fingers) are surprisingly more compact than the Fox's. I'm not willing to shell out for a Howarth, though, but it made me ponder whether I wanted to go through and buy the Fox 520, since there ARE other EHs that are less unwieldy and so maybe I shouldn't stop in my search.
Do any of you have some suggestions on makes that are good for small hands? Has anyone tried the Fox 520 and is it markedly different from the all-wood 500?
