But I am driving a 13 year old car that has had new brakes and multiple lesser repairs, and playing an 8 year- old oboe that has several repaired cracks and repaired leaks around the tone-hole inserts. (Had both car and instrument since they were pups, so it's all my fault.)

I don't give either one the pounding that taxi drivers or professional oboists do, although I do drive, and play, just about every day. And both auto and oboe are more than sufficient for the task at hand.

Now, if I were driving at Indy, or playing in the Chicago Symphony (or even the Lyric Opera), I might feel different about it.
