JRC, as I have come as a non-degree seeking candidate, it hasn't been a problem with the short scrape, more a curiosity to others. I find the longer I play with the other students, the easier I am finding to blend my sound, and in the process, I have realised that while I like the sound of my short scrape reeds, I like the ease of response that the long-scrape players get, and have been adjusting more in this direction than I used to, while the short scrape manages to retain the tone I prefer.
I guess it may come as more of a problem if I were to play in the advanced ensembles, but there are many players a lot more advanced than I to fill those positions, so I don't think it is a problem yet. And no conductor or chamber music tutor or instructor of any kind who isn't an oboe player seems to have even noticed.
