OH GOOD GOLLY AND GOSH OH GEEZ!
Not only are those words subject to unbelievable interpretation, the sensitivity in the lips depends on so many physical and experience factors... not to mention individual preferences!
I sometimes feel the reed vibrating in my lips: it's usually when I am tired or under attack from pollen allergies! Otherwise, I have to go for weeks without playing before the buzz tickles my lips.
As for resistance, freedom of sounding and so on, I kind of feel it in the back of my throat more than anywhere. I feel like the reed chokes up when response is poor and so on. It's not that the reed is harder, it's more like it doesn't WANT to play, regardless of what I do in terms of scraping, soaking or whatever.
But here's a queer situation: I recently wired a reed that was slipping WAAAYYYY to much. This resulted in a reed that plays very easily: very responsive and starts playing with almost no effort. BUT, strangely, I get tired with this reed much more quickly than with many of my hard and open reeds!..... go figure!
