I agree with you totally - Every player should find his/her own voice .... and as long as the playing is musical and pleasant to the ear who cares .....

Here's a story - I was told that a student played a Marigaux Oboe and produced a very personal and beautiful tone. When she went off to study at Julliard - she was told to sell the Marigaux and buy a Loree!

End of story.

There is nothing wrong with a "dark chocolate covered silky sound" - ... I object to a "one size fits all" ...............

The wonderful thing about the Oboe is its great tone diversity and color ..................... it is so expressive and unique - those qualities need to be cherished.
