Thank you so much! All of your answers really helped a lot. I listened to myself, as many of you urged me to do, and I think I do sound a lot better than what I was expecting.
Additionally, the reeds that I was using when I found "the tone", so to speak, were quite soft. I was rather surprised, to be honest. I had been using extremely hard reeds in the past. But with the embouchure advice (of wrapping the lips around the reed, and making sort of a yawn in the throat), I think I much prefer softer reeds.
I've only been playing for about three years, so I was focusing more on a "generic" sort of sound. However, I think I've realized now that each oboe has a unique sound to it. Which leads me to another question. What is the difference between a darker, creamy tone and a lighter, fruity tone?
