It just occurred to me while i was listening to Douglas Boyd tonight that he is so overtly under rated, despite being famous enough to have quit his job as principal oboist of the chamber orchestra of europe and becoming a conductor (which is a lost to those of us who wanted to hear more of him on the oboe). 2 cds come to mind, one of his bach concertos and another of the usual schumann recital program, both of which are on the DG label.

p.s. dont youtube him, all you will find is a recording with pathetic sound which does no justice despite it being interesting, and the rest, of him conducting. BUT, the legendary Beethoven cycle with Harnoncourt and the COE in the 90s was all done with him as principal oboe, and many if not all of the Abbado recordings from that period as well. Check out the Eroica, Schubert 5 and 9 if you have no other choice than to youtube (not sure whether those are on though), napster might have those cds i mentioned for the day if interest to sample comes
