I am gradually becoming more familiar with solo repertoire, having not been an oboist for all that long, but I am a sucker for the Saint-Saens Sonata. I have a recording with Allan Vogel playing, which is both enlightening and disheartening when I come to work at it myself!
I do know a lot of chamber repertoire, and one of my all time favourite chamber works is the Nielsen Wind Quintet, which I have only ever played as a flautist. I also love the Dvorak Serenade, which has some amazing oboe solos, the Mozart Octet in Eb and the Taffanel Wind Quintet (which I have only recently discovered - what a fantastic piece of music!)
On a side note, I recently performed oboe (two days ago) in a wind quintet - first quintet gig not on flute! It was background music so we did a lot of arrangements, and it was a chop buster, but it was fabulous! I am looking forward to our annual community music camp as I will return as a more experienced oboist that I was last year!
