As an amateur player who plays maybe 1 to 2 hours a day and who uses reeds made by other people, I've had reeds last for, literally, weeks. I am careful to rinse them off thoroughly after every use, to get rid of the bacteria and saliva acids that can age reeds, and I also give them a good spray-down with 90% rubbing alcohol, which serves to kill any "biofilm" bacteria further, bacteria whose waste products are acid and which I thus want colonizing my reeds as little as possible.
