My experience with epicondylitis (tennis elbow) was that you must (*MUST*) stop doing the thing that makes it worse, in my case, playing the piano, in your student's case, playing the oboe. When you're dealing with something like that, you have to rest the muscles and tendons involved and allow them to heal and make new connections, which they're never going to do if they're continually being re-injured. You can't go straight from therapeutic exercise to re-injury and expect to make any sort of headway in your condition.
