Just looking for a suggestion.
I have a student who is experiencing severe pain when she plays her oboe. She injured her right thumb as a child (age 3), splitting the first joint to the first knuckle. She is lucky to have kept the thumb, but believes it is now contributing to tendonitis (at age 18). Currently, if she plays for longer than about 20 minutes, she has shooting pains in her right arm midway between the wrist and the elbow.
We tried inverting the thumbrest (turning it upside down) so that her thumb could be somewhat higher. This helped for a couple of days, but the problem returned.
We tried a neck strap, but without too much success.
We are considering using other kinds of support mechanisms, but are unsure of which ones would work best.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
