Hi Cooper and All,
Let's establish some criteria - how to judge the hardness and quality of cane from gouger shavings.
I would be very interested in learning how people evaluate their gouged cane by just observing the shavings by the manner in which the cane reacts in the gouger.
How about some criteria in the examination of the tubes themselves - before splitting, after splitting, and after pre-gouger to determine hardness and/or density.
I am eagerly awaiting all your observations.
"When in doubt - throw out!" The more criteria to eliminate poor outcomes the better.
