Had a chat about this subject this evening during my oboe lesson.

47 works best for American scrape, according to my teacher. On a side note, if you alter the staple hole size, this will affect pitch of the notes past the G in the second octave and above.

Another thing mentioned was Tabuteau liked to use a 46.5 length tube, and swore by it, though modern day oboists, John Ferrillo he mentioned specifically, says stick with 47 and only 47.
