Hi Ian,
I'm way ahead of you there. ;-) The clarinet is a Hanson student model and has been taken with me on holiday for years. It's been left out in the sunshine so many times that it's very much a dark green colour now, but it doesn't smell. The 5RV MP (my very first) is a similar colour.
I still take it though, and use it outside. Never have a problem with it.
Of course, I would never treat oboes or wooden clarinets like that!
