Howard,
I, too, wish that I could go back 40 years and listen - really listen - to my teacher, and start to practice all of those technical exercises slowly and correctly from day one. It's not going to happen this lifetime, at least, not for me!
I am reminded of a quote from Horowitz, who claimed that a musician needs technique, musical intelligence and musical feeling in equal measure. When I am not working on technique (which, let's face it, is most of the time) I can at least be listening intelligently to other players, analyzing critically and experiencing music emotionally in countless ways.
The masterclass will soon be behind you so get as much out of it as you can, in all ways. Is your objective to impress people? Or is it to make better music?
And by the way, all of this knowledge you have recently acquired. Do you think it would help your thoughts to put it down in writing, and share it with us? Please?
