I find that over the years the length of my reed tips change slightly, some longer, some shorter. Unlike most of the experts I do not own a micirometer and depend on pre-shaped cane, so I could not tell you about measurements.
My current reeds are longer, with deeper 'windows' in the back, quite a bit of taper between tip (short or long) and heart.
However, cane varies in density, so my approach is to trim/shave the reed according to what sounds good. This is very vague when it comes to (helping others with) technique but it seems to work for me. My teacher studied with Tabuteau and his advice was always "Cut the reed so it PLAYS."
There are some really good reed-making websites and advice out there, check previous posts for names/directions.
PS Keep your knife sharp!
