Hi,
Just curious to know how different reed makers out there - approach finishing the tip of the reed.
For example, length, contour, thickness, measurement, relation to the heart, etc............................
I have been experimenting with the above dimensions - curious what other have to say about it.
I have begun to make the tip very very thin and I have somewhat shortened the length of the tip in response to the tip thickness as well as having greatly more taper from the heart to the tip ............ with well defined channels and windows and lots of wood removed. Some may call it a short tip reed (about 4mm or slightly less side of tip - 3 mm or slightly less center). For my Oboe, embouchure, style - I find more pitch stability with this approach. I get a focused and warm tone.
