Sorry to hear your tale of woe.
If you want to keep your fingers limber with little weight resting on it while you are rebuilding the strength in that wrist, you could get a plastic (lightweight and cheap) descant or treble recorder. Tenor would be a more similar stretch to oboe but the weight is that much greater as well. It's not the oboe, but it might stop you tearing your hair out in boredom while you recover. You can probably play most baroque repertoire you may have without doing a great deal of adaptation.
