Speaking as a mom of three college students, I'm here to tell you that ""oh, u shouldn't go there, philly is not a nice city" is parental verbal shorthand for, "We wish you'd go to a college where you'll live in a big busy dorm with RA's and stuff, and be safe, rather than winging it on your own in an apartment". Parents everywhere are universally appalled at the thought of their 18-year-old babies "getting their own apartment". It's too soon! The horror! I'm sure you can sympathize.
So don't let considerations of whether Philly is a "nice city" sway your career choices. When push comes to shove, and you're standing there with your acceptance letter from Curtis in your hand and a big silly grin all over your face, your folks will cave. Trust me.
Your dad will even drive you all the way out there and help you move in.

ETA: Be very aware of how soon admissions closes for the schools you're interested in. For example, I see that the closing date for applications to Curtis for Fall 2009 is actually tomorrow. You'll have to be johnny-on-the-spot your senior year, next year.
Also note that admission will require an audition, to which you will have to figure out transportation, housing, etc. You will impress your parents by having this all figured out, especially the "how you're going to pay for it all" part, beforehand, like well in advance.
