Holliger's tone can range from reedy/nasal all the way to sweet/beautiful, depending on your taste and also on which recording you're listening to (apparently his sound has evolved quite self-consciously over the length of his amazing groundbreaking career). In my opinion he's at his tonal best (strictly in terms of tone and within the several recordings that I've listened to of his playing) on the following CD:
