They are both very bad. I would guess #1 is worse.... As some others have said, put your oboe case in two insulated bags (shearling case cover and gig bag) to help keep the temperature moderated. There are numerous great gig bags on the market that are well worth the $$ to save your oboe from temperature related cracking.

What about when you're in the middle of a show and someone (on stage) decides they need cooler air, and you've got cold wind blasting your way? That 'scenario' scared me.

That happens frequently here.... and that is when you see all the wind players with their instruments stuck up under their armpits.
