Okay - here's an 'inquiring mind wants to know' question: Which is worse on an instrument (1) coming inside from the freezing cold, say having only 5 minutes unpacking and putting together in room before an hour rehearsal, or (2) finishing that hour rehearsal, packing up and chatting in 5 minutes, then out into that freezing cold? Assume that the instrument will start and eventually cool back down to the same temperature.
Is it worse to go from cold to warm, or warm to cold and what is the wood doing in either scenario?
(Obviously we all work hard to avoid these situations!)
