You don't say how old your pupil is. If they're a child, you probably don't want to play them CDs for the whole lesson - they'll be bored. (Although I agree it is a good idea to listen to 'real' oboists when you're learning.)
Also if they're young, they'll be keen to get going and make noises, so don't blind them with too much science as they'll just switch off. Yes, you have to take some time explaining breathing. But also let them get to the reed, and the instrument, so that they can play B-A-G by the end of the lesson. Otherwise they'll wonder what on earth they've been doing there. You can keep going back to breathing technique a bit more for the next few lessons.
Obviously if you're pupil is an adult, you can increase the explanation time - but they'll probably still want to play something!
