I think the most important part to developing quickly and becoming a mature, excellent oboist is to have a firm concept of what you want to sound like. It is important for the student to have a love for classical music for them to be able to excell and be expressive through the oboe. For the first lesson I would just play the student recordings of the best oboists around (To me this would be John Mack, Elaine Douvas, Nathan Hughes, Liang Wang, Richard Woodhams, John Ferrillo, Kathy Greenbank, John de Lancie, and the list goes on). Talk to them about what it is they like about thei recordings and try to get them to have a sound concept that they are trying to achieve. I think then, as technique, embrochure, reeds, etc are adressed, the student won't lose focus of the big picture when working on small details.
