I have shared the story on this board before of a former Principal player from one of the top US orchestras performing the Mozart concerto on a "franken-clarinet" (as far as I recall, an R13 "Vintage" model combined with an R13, but can't remember which was on top/bottom). However I'm pretty sure that he owned both clarinets before he tried the combo...
True story. Can't say if he continued this experiment, but it was a real thing when he was here in NZ and had performed in US with this combo.
A friend of mine also has a clarinet that is R13 top joint and E13 lower joint (he had acquired various "bits" over the years and put them together) and this plays quite nicely- certainly better than some of the NEW R13s I get to play when testing out instruments for my students.
