And gin would not work because . . .???
I worked for about an hour yesterday afternoon, incorporating the tips that Chris P. presented (thanks, Chris), plus whatever common sense I could bring to the issue, and I think I got the problem solved, for now.
I did minimize the play in what Chris calls the "con bar," and that helped a little.
Then I had the bright idea that, if the "con bar" adjustment was preventing the lower vent (the vent controlled by the G finger touch) from opening adequately, perhaps the converse would be true -- that the vent controlled by the "A" finger touch might not be closing tightly enough.
I tested it by playing the Bb, using my LH third finger instead of the index finger, and pressed the upper vent key closed with my index finger. And what do you know! Closing that vent cleared the problem up.
So, I adjusted the vent a tad tighter, and my Bb was good to go.
It appears that my instrument likes its upper joint vents adjusted so that the closure is basically equal with the finger touch keys. Good to know!
Cheers!
Susan
