I just tried my new oboe reeds today.
The vandoren did not sound readily and it wouldn't sound good. I suspect it to be too hard/thick for me but i did not know the thickness or grade of it as someone else had purchased it. I would like to know what is the problem of the reed to me if it is too difficult to produce a sound?
This is the first time that i am using a reed with the wires (i suppose the name is staple? I am not sure at all...), the one on the rico reed has already been fitted perfectly on the reed.....but the one on the vandoren got a bit loose and i didn't know what position would be appropriate for the staple to be at....i suppose nearer the end of the reed right? The vandoren is a bit longer than my usual reeds. (la voz)
The scraped portion (from the tip to about the middle)
is about 1 cm long and the excess portion (seems to be unscraped at all as the surface is very very smooth)is about 2 cm long. Does this mean that i have to scrape the excess face of the reed or is this sort of reed suppose to be like that? I am very confused....
