practicing trills

i've been playing a lot of baroque lately, which always makes me acutely aware of which notes are hard to trill..e.g. e to f is the easiest trill for me, or f# to g, i guess it's the notes that allow a finger to move without having to hold down a bunch of other fingers. By the same token, the really hard trills are d to e flat or c# to d or e flat to forked f or f to g, where you're holding other fingers down so the trill finger has to do all the work on its own. anybody got any good ideas other than practicing like hell to make these trills easier? is this the kind of thing that gets harder as one gets older?
