Hi Drew --
I'm one (not the only one) of the Covey players on the board. I have a Covey Classic, vintage 2002, I think (close, anyway).
I've never been aware of any of the "pop" on the keys that you mention. I suppose if I really spank them, there might be a pop, but I can generally get a very smooth, quiet transition between notes.
I like my Covey a lot, largely because it has a lovely, sweet-dark quality to the tone that is audible to the listener. It has served me well.
I see your ISP is listed as Columbus Roadrunner. Are you in Ohio? I am -- in Coshocton. (Just asking, because folks around here who have Roadrunner have the same prefix -- "Columbus")
Bobo is right -- use the "Search" function (available at the top of each thread) with the salient terms, and you will find that we have gone on and on about Covey and Howarth and most of the other well-known makes of oboe.
Welcome to the Board!
Susan
