What you have heard about the Rigoutat is true. I recently purchased a Rigoutat Expression oboe. It has a flexibility and musicality that no other instrument I tried had. The scale is incredible. Everyone who has heard me play has had exactly the same comment: "It sounds so smooth". Also because of the flexibility I find that I can not only bring out solos but I am able to blend with other intrument sounds without getting lost. I find that unlike my old oboe (Rigoutat Classic from the early '80s) more flexible does not mean less stable. The Expression is very stable.

I tried many oboes, (though not a Marigaux) and it came down to a standard bore Loree Royale and the Rigoutat. I did an extensive 5 day comparison and for me it was the Rigoutat. The Loree was a wonderful horn. It had a wonderful charateristic "Loree sound" that was just that; wonderful but not necessarily flexible.

About stiffness in your new horn. Most new intruments do break in. From what I understand, Lorees are more "ready to play" from the factory than most brands (on purpose). Rigoutats have much more resitance/stiffness new and break in more slowly. My new horn has opened up greatly since I bought it 3 months ago.
