Hi,

I don't think the oboe itself has as huge effect on the problems you described than does the reed. I have tried many oboes, and after about a week, I have been able to make my sound on all of them, and they feel fine. For my purposes ( I play 2nd oboe) I have a Greenline oboe, which works very well in the lower register, and similarly has a very even scale throughout all registers. There is tone quality difference, of course, but that's only different to thousands of inches!
Anyway, I think when buying a professional oboe, that really, any of the models out there will do. It's all just personal preference. You can't make presumptions based on trying one instrument of a certain brand, that all instruments are like that. I tried a Loree once, and it was garbage! Conversely, I really enjoy when my colleague lets me play her AK Loree. Make sure your reeds function first before making any judgements. If your reeds don't work very well, try to find a teacher, or a colleague who might lend you their reeds to try the instrument out.
