If it's something you want to do, then the right decision is to go ahead and do it. Just know that sometimes it's going to be really tedious, and a big fat royal pain in the neck, but it will all be worth it. Oboe is a wonderful instrument and--talk about a fresh start--you'll be learning a new way to breathe and tongue.
The one thing you absolutely positively must do is get a good teacher, preferably one who is a fulltime oboe player. Just because you know a few other instruments, including woodwinds, doesn't mean anything. Oboe is a completely different universe.
Go for it and let us know how you're doing with it.
