Hi, a good friend of mine played trumpet during high school and started playing oboe at 16. She found a good teacher, practiced like hell and got into the Conservatoire at 18. She's now completing her studies with a great oboe proffessor and giging professionally. So yeah, go for it. (you DO alredy have a good musical base, so you'll be able to concentrate on learning the instrument, NOT the music).
